Our Story 

Our Story began in 1992 when Dennis and Nanette Gillan purchased a pumper truck and started their own Septic Company.  With a clear vision and drive to succeed, Area Wide Septic Service, Inc. (AWSS) was born.  AWSS offered a complete line of septic services, including installation, repairs and pumping.  As a family business, their three sons worked right alongside their parents from a young age in making their dream a reality.  Over the years, AWSS, Inc. expanded their services to provide sewer work, commercial snow removal and excavation services.  It is with much pride and excitement that Jeff continues his parents’ legacy as the second-generation owner of the AWSS business, which is now under the umbrella of Jeff’s own company, Gillan Construction LLC.  Jeff is fortunate to have retained his two younger brothers as key members of the Gillan team.  Gillan Construction, LLC also offer a whole host of others services, including in-ground fiberglass pool installations, shoreline stabilization, dock installations and much more. 

Meet Our Leadership Team

Jeff Gillan, President and Owner of Gillan Construction

As the second-generation owner and operator, Jeff’s commitment is at the core of our continued success and vision for company growth.  Jeff graduated with his Construction Management degree from Bradley University in 2003 and has since continued his education in the field, graduating from the Illinois Roadbuilders’ Emerging Leaders Program in 2017.  Upon obtaining his bachelors, Jeff began his construction career working as a project manager for Illinois Constructors and eventually moved over to D. Construction, where he thrived for nearly 15 years.  At D. Construction, Jeff gained considerable experience serving as the company’s Bridge Superintendent and his projects have won several awards over the years.   As he leads Gillan Construction into the future, Jeff has a strategic vision of diversification and ensuring Gillan Construction as contractor of choice.

Neil Gillan

Neil is younger brother to Jeff and a strong asset to Gillan Construction.  Neil has worked for AWSS for 10+ years and is a licensed septic installer and pumper.  Neil is also key in leading our commercial snow removal division.  Neil grew up with a deep interest in construction and spent every opportunity available working within the company and alongside his parents who built it.  Neil brings a wealth of experience and historical knowledge and his commitment to making the family business a success is evident in his dedication and superb customer service.

Andrew Gillan

Andrew Gillan is the youngest of the Gillan brothers.   Andrew also worked alongside his parents and older brothers from a young age and was able to quickly learn the ropes of the business.  In addition to his septic and snow removal experience, Andrew has technical experience in diesel mechanics, having taken course work as part of the Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Program at Illinois Central College in 2018-2019.  Andrew focuses on the company’s mechanical work and is committed to delivering the highest quality of safe project delivery.

Tracey Justi

Tracey Justi is the Office Manager at Gillan Construction.  Tracey has extensive experience in office management, having worked in various industries.  Prior to joining Gillan Construction, she worked for several years as the office manager for two sister construction companies and an asphalt plant and brings with her much knowledge of the industry.

Meet our Future Leaders

Grady (born in 2006), Gavin (2008) and Leo (2011) are the sons of Jeff and Liza Gillan.  They love working with their Dad and uncles and are learning the ins and outs of the business.  They are looking forward to the day when they too can “officially” work at Gillan Construction!  They are our third generation future leaders.
